Last week was a heavy one for me.
I am not ready to share the details yet because the story is not fully mine to tell. But stress crept in. The kind that sits in your chest and follows you around.
I felt it. And I knew I had to do something about it.
So I went to my stress toolkit.
Exercise is usually my first move. But last week I was too exhausted even for that. That was a new one for me. My body just said no. So I went looking for something gentler, and I came back to something I had not done in a while. I booked a sound bath.
I discovered sound baths about two years ago and they changed how I think about rest. I had drifted away from them. Last week reminded me why I started.
So if you have never heard of one, let me explain.
WHAT IS A SOUND BATH?
It is exactly what it sounds like…
You lie down on a mat, usually in a studio or wellness space. The facilitator uses instruments -singing bowls, gongs, chimes - to fill the room with layered sound. You do not do anything. You just receive it.
Some sessions also include breathwork at the start. Guided breathing that helps your nervous system downshift before the sound begins.
You are not asked to clear your mind. You are not asked to focus. You just lie there and let the sound move through you.
HOW TO FIND ONE NEAR YOU
Search "sound bath near me" or "breathwork class near me" on Google. Some yoga studios offer them too.
WHAT TO EXPECT
You show up. You take off your shoes. You lie down on a mat with a blanket and sometimes an eye mask. The lights are low. The facilitator guides you through a few minutes of breathing, and then the sound starts.
It lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. You may feel tingling. You may fall asleep. You may feel emotions surface without knowing why. All of it is normal.
HOW YOU FEEL AFTER
Clearer. Slower. Like someone turned the volume down on the world.
I walked out and the air felt different. My thoughts were quieter. My body felt like it had actually rested, and the heaviness I was carrying became much lighter.
I highly recommend this especially if you are someone who finds traditional meditation impossible. If your brain will not stop. If you reach for your phone every time there is a quiet moment. If you decompress by scrolling reels and wake up more tired than before.
This is something different. Your only job is to lie down and breathe.
Try it once. See how you feel.
And if you have already done one, reply and tell me about it. I want to hear.
See you next Tuesday.
